| Back in Australialand! |
[Dec. 9th, 2009|01:01 pm] |
And so the holiday is ended. Woe. It was rather fun.
Anyway, back to Ye Old Australia, and feeling much better after a shower. Forgive me if I get confused about what day it is, I spent an entire day in Singapore shopping doing things, then caught a plane at 9pm, and arrived back here local time at 7am. There was no sleep at any point.
Also, my apologies to robotlove to the lack of reply to her email, or texts while in Singapore. The hotel in Singapore didn't have free Internet, and I had better things to spend my money.
On that note: What's all this about new Code Geass? No, seriously, what's all this? I am very confused at the mixed information being thrown around, and I do not know teh moonspeak to be able to go direct to the source myself. But I so called it that any new info would come out at the birthday thing.
And while I'm on that, what's new in my other fandoms? Or in non-fandomness for that matter. I'm feeling out of touch with both reality and fantasy right now. |

| Who wants a free Lost Season 1 DVD?????? (non-fans only) |
[Dec. 7th, 2009|11:47 am] |
There are a few caveats, so read everything closely.
You have to have never watched Lost, or be so casual a viewer as to be unaware of what's going on. This is a promotion for NEW fans, or rather, to convince new people to become fans. If you want in, email me at Garfeimao@yahoo.com so I can set you up with receiving the season 1 DVD boxset. They want you to sign up for the ABCInnerCircle (which happens to be a rather cool way to see new ABC programs and be involved in private chats and win stuff, etc), and once signed up, ABC will send you the DVD boxset directly.
But there is more to this than just that. ABC actually expects you to watch the DVDs, and so do I. Why? ABCInnerCircle will have you answer a few questions to prove you watched the show (and no, you don't have to have enjoyed it, they just want you to prove you watched it) and then they will send me the Season 5 DVD boxset. And believe you/me, I want Season 5 big time, so I'll be poking you to finish. I'm sure once you watch a few episodes, I won't have to poke you too hard, but the quicker the better. ;-)
But wait, there's more, and no, it's not ginzu knives. After you've particpated in the ABCInnerCircle activity to prove you watched the season 1, and after they send me Season 5, they will invite you to find another Lost newbie to pass Season 1 onto. If you do, ABC would like them to sign up, just like you, and then ABC will send you the Season 2 DVD boxset. So the key is to be a particpatory type person yourself, and then to have friends who will do the same. Because as the chain goes on and on, you could end up seeing the whole current 5 seasons on DVD, for Free.
This promotion runs until April, so plenty of time to respond to me, get the DVDs, watch them, answer some questions, and then 'pay if forward' to other friends. The idea is to have the longest chain of new Lost fans by April 1, 2010. So, again, I invite you to the Island, just email me at Garfeimao (at) Yahoo (dot) com so we can get this all worked out. And please be openminded and excited at this opportunity, otherwise it's a waste of my time and yours. |

| December Books 3) Decalog, edited by Mark Stammers and Stephen James Walker |
[Dec. 7th, 2009|06:48 pm] |
Surprising to read that this was the very first anthology of Doctor Who short stories, published back in 1994 (other than the various annuals and fan publications). There is a supposed framing narrative of the Seventh Doctor visiting a California psychic to get readings of objects from his pockets, thus providing the stories, but it is not quite necessary enough to be convincing. Some contributors have since gone on to great things; some have disappeared completely. My favourite was Jim Mortimore's "The Book of Shadows", about Barbara Wright marrying one of Alexander the Great's generals and ruling Egypt - particularly interesting to come to this so soon after Farewell Great Macedon which has a very similar theme. Also I gave a cheer for David Auger's "The Golden Door" which features Dodo, though it is not very special otherwise. Hoping to read a few more Who anthologies rather than novels this month - you have been warned.

| Rain, rain, go away |
[Dec. 7th, 2009|10:42 am] |
Come again some other day.
I know we need rain here in So Cal, but it's going to be raining most of the week, and our burn areas just can't take that level of water droppage. It's going to be a really messy week. |

Guys! Thank you to shaenie, terribilita and Anonymous for the snowflakes! They're pretty.
Conversation of the weekend, between me and my father:
Me: I want to talk to you. Dad (hopefully): About the World Cup draw? Me: Um, no?
Ah, me and my dad -- both fannish, but about very, very different things.
(What I wanted to talk to him about was Mum's Christmas present. Unless he receives very specific guidance, Dad will invariably panic and buy her expensive jewelry that she doesn't want, and so I've taken to choosing something she *does* want and presenting it to him as a fait accompli: "Dad, this is what you're giving Mum for Christmas, okay?")
I didn't quite get my yuletide fic finished yesterday, but I only have the last scene to write, so I'm feeling a lot happier that I will get there. I'm going away for the next couple of days -- back on Wednesday -- and I'm going to bring the little Asus notebook with me in case I can grab a bit of time to myself. Now, back to backing... |
