I'm very pleased to say that, as announced by Marvel Comics head honcho Joe Quesada yesterday at the Wizard World convention in Chicago, I'm going to be the new writer on the ongoing series Excalibur. For those of you who don't follow comics, this is the monthly adventures of (basically) the British branch of the X-Men. And that's all I'm going to say about the content (or anything else, really) for now. It's been an absolute pleasure to work with editor Nick Lowe on my Wisdom mini-series, and I'm looking forward to that relationship continuing on this new book. This is something I've always wanted to do, the one big current comic book I really wanted, and I've got many, many plans. If you haven't given super hero comics a go for a long time, or ever, I hope I might have a go at luring you to do so.
I'm planning to blog at greater length about all sorts of things tomorrow (having had three huge and splended meetings in the last two days), but tonight I just wanted to leap up and down and whoop a lot about this. Current mood: ecstatic!

Well done. I think I might have heard murmurings about this, all right, and I'm delighted to see they're true. Any idea when we'll see the first one on the shelves?
Obviously Captain Britain will be in this, though...?
And The Fury. Please say you're going to bring back The Fury.
Can't say anything more yet! Sorry!
w00t! I'll actually start buying that book again! And to go with my buying of it, I may go so far (and this is crazy, I know) as to... READ the thing!
(and my husband seconds my w00t with a KABLAM!)
Congratulations! I've never really followed comics, one of the many enthusiasm paths not taken, but I dipped into the pre-Excalibur Captain Britain series at various points in the 1980s, and have had friends enthuse at me about Excalibur at numerous points since. This is a great opportunity to weave new folk tales from a rich choice of skeins... but you know that more than anyone else. Well done again.
Oh my GOD!!
You have no idea how happy that makes me to hear, Mr. Cornell. (Actually, you probably do, since I heard the rumor a while ago and posted about it.)
Congratulations! I will definitely be reading and pimping the series like crazy. When will you be taking over?!
I am going to announce this on my journal right now with much fanfare.
Please let me know when the list of unreasonable-yet-compelling requests for the series can be submitted? :-)
Seriously, can I beg for a Siryn cameo? She hasn't been back to Britain or Cassidy Keep in Ireland since Sean died, and she's good friends with Alison, and Cain helped raise her (with Black Tom)! :-)
/first unreasonable request
I wondered when the announcement would be made. Well done, you! :)
Sorry we couldn't make your birthday party... hope it was a great bash! *hugs*
Ah. You're going to make me buy another Marvel book, aren't you?
I just heard it was announced and jumped on my own LJ to run around in ever decreasing circles about it. Great news! When it was rumoured a few weeks ago my fingers were well and truly crossed. Great to hear it confirmed!
Does this mean we may not have seen the last of Tink, John and Sid?
Brilliant news, loved Wisdom and Marvel have made the perfect choice. When I heard the rumour I assumed, like most positive rumours, that it might not be true. So glad to hear it is.
Well done. No better man. Congratulations and all the best with it.
I'd heard the rumblings of this for awhile, and as a huge fan of Claremont, and Excalibur, I was a little torn. On the one hand, the book has always been Chris' baby, but the book's felt a wee bit lost lately (In my opnion, of course), but I've also heard what a great writer you are by any number of my friends, as well as seeing it for myself in recent years starting with the new Doctor Who, Robin Hood, and the Wisdom limited series.
That said, now that it's official, I must say I'm pretty excited. What's there to be sad about when a skilled writer is taking over one of my favourite teams? I am definitely looking forward to this, and am adding you, finally, to my friends list to keep tabs on what's up on things Excalibur, and a few things not.
Which is an amazingly roundabout way of saying, "Hi!" =)
Congrats!
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Congratulations. Rather, conga-rat-ulations:
Oh Congratulations... damn, another title to buy...
My comic shop is still trying to track down Wisdom 1, therefore the other issues are all currently still sat in my folder lurking... waiting... crouching ready to strike. Hopefully it will have appeared by my monthly visit.
Congratulations - it's great to hear good news from those I know. Something else for you to talk about at P-Con 6 in 2009.
Congratulations. I loved Wisdom and look forward to seeing what you do with this book. I followed the original Excalibur series but not this one. Looks like that will change...
Oh, and in the spirit of completely spurious and unlikely requests . . . Death's Head? (Either of them.)
Paul:
Been a while. Congrats. Should be interesting to see.
Excellent! Great to hear it.
Congratulations Paul!
Not read Excalibur for at least 10 years so I guess I'll be returning to it. | |
